Málaga lies only a few dozen kilometers north of the limit. The city sees a dramatic 96–98% partial — but misses everything those last few percent buy: darkness, corona, stars.
What Málaga is perfect for is base camp. It has the international airport, and Tarifa or Gibraltar inside the path are under two hours away by car; most European eclipse-chasers will route through here.
Heavy traffic is forecast on the A-7 coastal motorway that morning — if you plan to drive into the path, stay overnight closer the evening before.
Even outside the path, Málaga's sky show goes on: throughout the partial phases, sunlight filtering through leaves scatters thousands of crescent images on the ground — the pinhole effect, especially crisp at 96%. Old-town alleys make perfect screens. And eclipse glasses stay on the whole time here — unlike inside the path, there is no safe moment to remove them.
